Two of my single-channel videos, Soft Velvet Float and Vertical Blinds (2), will be featured in a group exhibition at Walter Maciel Gallery in Los Angeles. The exhibition, titled Short Film Series 1, is curated by Anne Alvergue and includes work by eight video artists from around the country. It opens July 10 and runs through August 20.

Totem (1) at Byron Cohen Gallery

One of my recent pieces, the three-channel Totem (1), is currently installed in the back gallery room of Byron Cohen Gallery in Kansas City where it will most likely be on view for the rest of the year. If you missed seeing it during my SpaceRockSpasm exhibit at Review Studios, drop by the gallery sometime.

I found out yesterday that one of my newest pieces, the three-channel Totem (1), will be shown at the Bruno David Gallery in St. Louis in September. It will be shown along with paintings by one of my closest friends, Kelley Johnson.

Cara and Cabezas at NEXT

The NEXT exhibition/art fair closes tomorrow in Chicago. To the left is an image from the Cara and Cabezas Contemporary booth, which includes my video piece Starchild, as well as drawings by Anne Austin Pearce. The news out of Chicago is that the fairs have been well attended but sales are very slow this year, which isn’t too surprising.

One of my newest pieces, the two-channel video Starchild, will be shown next week at NEXT 2010 in Chicago, represented by Cara and Cabezas Contemporary. The fair runs April 30-May 3 at the Chicago Merchandise Mart.

review for Ectoplasmic Response

A very nice review of the show at Swarm Gallery was just posted on the Review website, a KC-based arts blog. The writer, Jess Brier, had some interesting things to say about Ectoplasmic Response. It’s always great when a writer or critic “gets” a piece and is able to verbalize thoughts behind it much better than me.

The exhibition remains on view at the gallery in Oakland until March 14.

opening reception at Swarm Gallery

The opening reception for my exhibition at Swarm Gallery in Oakland happened last Saturday evening with a very nice sized crowd attending. My audio and video installation Ectoplasmic Response was shown along with drawings by Bay Area artist Casey Jex Smith and an installation of ghostly architectural elements made of vellum by Brooklyn-based artist Sonya Blesofsky. There was also a short performance by 4AD artist tUnE-YarDs.

For anyone visiting the Bay Area, you should check out the up-and-coming art scene in Oakland. There are some very interesting things happening there, with Swarm Gallery being in the center of it.

Installation is almost complete on Ectoplasmic Response at the Swarm Gallery in Oakland. I’ve been working since yesterday afternoon mounting and wiring the projector and all of the speakers. All that remains is to run all of the final power cables and close off the ceiling of the project room.

The public reception is Saturday evening from 6-8pm. Also showing in the gallery are Sonya Blesofsky, an installation artist from Brooklyn, and Casey Jex Smith, a painter from the Bay Area.

My video animations will be represented by Cara and Cabezas Contemporary at the Verge Art Fair in Miami Beach this weekend. Housed in the Catalina Hotel, Verge is part of the larger madness of Art Basel Miami Beach weekend.

One the more recent venues to become involved in the Intermissions project, Point of Contact Gallery, is now showing my Kings, Thieves video on a large LCD monitor in their window 24/7 for the duration of the project.
