A short (and somewhat literal and simple-minded) review of the group exhibition currently up at The Studios Inc. was published in The Pitch today. The writer warns of Deep Down Trauma Hounds being uninteresting to people concerned with the financial crisis. Bizarre.

Deep Down Trauma Hounds, a new five-channel video piece of mine, is currently on display in the annual group exhibition at The Studios Inc. exhibition space. The piece contains appropriated video clips from 1970s European horror films which create an unsettling, ritualistic experience. The piece will be on view through February 2012.

Black Bamboo catalog

I was chosen as one of six Kansas City-based artists to be highlighted in the new Black Bamboo catalog. Black Bamboo is a modern furnishing company in KC with strong ties to the local art community. Other artists featured in the catalog are Peregrine Honig, Archie Scott Gobber, Marcie Miller Gross, Anne Lindberg, and Roger Shimomura.

A very nice review of the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art‘s The Big Reveal exhibit by Alice Thorson was published today in the Kansas City Star. Here’s an excerpt from the article…

“The museum purchased Anderson’s Janus (2) and the artist made a gift of his video Pigeon made in 2001.

Consisting of close-up footage of a single bird lifting its beak to drink from a stream of water, it’s a quietly lyrical work, celebrating avian determination in the face of human encroachment. Although we don’t see them, the soundtrack captures the murmur of many people close by.”

I just found out that there was a nice little write-up about my MOBank Artboards by Alice Thorson in the Kansas City Star back in September. Here’s an excerpt from the article…

“Anderson, a member of the art faculty at UMKC, is on a roll this season, with works on view in the “Thee & Me” exhibits at both the Epsten and Greenlease Galleries. He will also have two videos in the Kemper Museum‘s “The Big Reveal” show, opening Sept. 23.

On the west-facing “Artboards” at the Missouri Bank Crossroads branch, 125 Southwest Blvd., Anderson will show two images from his new video “Junk Yard.” Featuring fragments of people, animals and objects drawn from mid-20th century advertising, the works tap consumer nostalgia for an earlier more prosperous America.”

Bloom (Brilliant), the recent video I created for the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art‘s semi-annual benefit auction, Beyond Bounds, was mentioned in an article in the Kansas City Star this week.
The museum will be auctioning #1 from the edition of 3 of the piece. The piece will be screened on a monitor inside the museum as well as shown in a projection on the facade of the museum for the night of the auction, Saturday October 22.

Installation is in progess for The Big Reveal at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City. I went in this morning to advise on the equipment set up for my Janus (2) piece.

The exhibition opens this Friday, September 23.

One of my new video pieces, Janus (2), was featured in a spread in the new issue of KC Studio Magazine. The article highlights the upcoming exhibition The Big Reveal at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City. This group exhibition, which features recent acquisitions by the museum, will include my Janus (2) and Pigeon pieces both of which were acquired by the museum this past year. The exhibition opens with a reception on September 23 and will run through the end of the year.
