A short (and somewhat literal and simple-minded) review of the group exhibition currently up at The Studios Inc. was published in The Pitch today. The writer warns of Deep Down Trauma Hounds being uninteresting to people concerned with the financial crisis. Bizarre.

Kemper exhibit reviewed in KC Star

A very nice review of the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art‘s The Big Reveal exhibit by Alice Thorson was published today in the Kansas City Star. Here’s an excerpt from the article…

“The museum purchased Anderson’s Janus (2) and the artist made a gift of his video Pigeon made in 2001.

Consisting of close-up footage of a single bird lifting its beak to drink from a stream of water, it’s a quietly lyrical work, celebrating avian determination in the face of human encroachment. Although we don’t see them, the soundtrack captures the murmur of many people close by.”

One of my new video pieces, Janus (2), was featured in a spread in the new issue of KC Studio Magazine. The article highlights the upcoming exhibition The Big Reveal at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City. This group exhibition, which features recent acquisitions by the museum, will include my Janus (2) and Pigeon pieces both of which were acquired by the museum this past year. The exhibition opens with a reception on September 23 and will run through the end of the year.

The Kansas City Star published a nice review by Elisabeth Kirsch of the group exhibition Between Thee and Me at the Kansas City Jewish Museum of Contemporary Art. The article mentions and includes an image of my contribution to the exhibition, the single-channel video animation Towerpsych.

Peter Frank just wrote a nice little review in the HuffPost Arts’ Haiku Reviews for my current exhibition at Walter Maciel Gallery in Los Angeles. The show will be on view until August 19.

SpaceRockSpasm, my current exhibition at Review Studios, was reviewed today in the Kansas City Star by Nick Malewski. The article, titled “Video-art exhibit taps into progressive rock sensibility,” is a very thoughtful and kind overview of many of the pieces in the exhibition. I’m glad the writer highlighted Starchild, which is my personal favorite of the new works.

A very nice review of the show at Swarm Gallery was just posted on the Review website, a KC-based arts blog. The writer, Jess Brier, had some interesting things to say about Ectoplasmic Response. It’s always great when a writer or critic “gets” a piece and is able to verbalize thoughts behind it much better than me.

The exhibition remains on view at the gallery in Oakland until March 14.

Treebeasties (1) was featured in an article titled “Modern Revival” in the Febraury 2010 issue ofKansas City Homes and Gardens. The article, written by Emily Perkins, spotlights Ryan and Leah Gale’s renovated 19th century home in KC’s Westside neighborhood. The Gales own a copy of Treebeasties (1), which is shown on an LCD in their living area.
