Pigeon in the Everson Museum collection

I got the official announcement yesterday that Pigeon has been accepted into the collection of the Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse, NY. The news came from the museum’s curator Debora Ryan who had organized an exhibition of the piece last year during my Intermissions project in the city.

Genome of the Soul

I finally got a recording of the performance of Genome of the Soul, a collaboration with composer Andrew Waggoner. This piece was performed by Andrew Waggoner, Nurit Pacht, Tawnya Popoff, and Caroline Stinson on September 29, 2009 at Syracuse University’s Watson Theater as a prelude to my lecture given in conjunction with the Intermissions project. The piece was also documented in photos and video but we’ve had a hard time tracking down the footage.

The University of Missouri-Kansas City (where I teach video and animation) is currently featuring my Intermissions project in Syracuse (which ended in December) on the main portal page of their website. An article about the project and my teaching can also be found through the UMKC Office of PR.

Better late than never I guess.

Treebeasties (1) was featured in an article titled “Modern Revival” in the Febraury 2010 issue ofKansas City Homes and Gardens. The article, written by Emily Perkins, spotlights Ryan and Leah Gale’s renovated 19th century home in KC’s Westside neighborhood. The Gales own a copy of Treebeasties (1), which is shown on an LCD in their living area.

Intermissions catalog released today

The catalog for the Intermissions project was delivered by the printers this morning and it’s beautiful. Published as Contact Sheet 153, the book is part of Light Work’s ongoing series of quarterly journals.

The 48-page book features essays by Peter Frank (curator of the Riverside Museum in Riverside, CA) and Emily Vey Duke (video artist and Syracuse University professor), as well as documentation of all of the sites featured in the Intermissions project.

Copies can be obtained through Light Work’s website.

Syracuse’s NPR affiliate, WRVO 89.9 FM, will be running radio spots throughout the day today and tomorrow promoting my lecture and reception at Light Work tomorrow night.

Two more vinyl window coverings were installed at Syracuse University, in the Syracuse Symposium offices. The images are from videos Lawn Ornaments and Memory Bleed, both created this year.

One the more recent venues to become involved in the Intermissions project, Point of Contact Gallery, is now showing my Kings, Thieves video on a large LCD monitor in their window 24/7 for the duration of the project.

The vinyl window coverings in the Panasci Lounge at Syracuse University were installed earlier today. The image is from my Soft Velvet Float video animation. The window coverings, part of the larger Intermissions project, will remain in place for the entire Fall semester.
