Totem (1) in collectors’ home

I just received some photos from the collectors who purchased the first edition of my recent Totem (1) video piece showing the work installed in their home. This is the first multi-channel video work of mine purchased for and installed in a domestic environment. The collector who purchased the second edition also plans on installing it in his home and I have a meeting with him next week to discuss installation options.

The third and final copy of the piece will be installed tomorrow at the Bruno David Gallery in St. Louis for an exhibition that opens next week.

benefit print for KC Jewish Museum

A print from a recent video piece, There and Back Again, is going to be part of this year’s annual Urban Suburban event at the Epsten Gallery at Village Shalom. The event, organized by local artist and curator Marcus Cain, is an exhibition and auction to benefit the Kansas City Jewish Museum. The exhibition opens September 5 with a reception from 2-4 PM. The closing party and live auction will be held October 23 at 7 PM.

I just accepted a last minute invitation from Richard Gray to do an exhibition of my single-channel video work at the University of Notre Dame later this Fall. The exhibition will run mid-October until Thanksgiving. I’ll be heading there at the end of October to give a lecture and attend mid-term graduate reviews.

Two of my single-channel videos, Soft Velvet Float and Vertical Blinds (2), will be featured in a group exhibition at Walter Maciel Gallery in Los Angeles. The exhibition, titled Short Film Series 1, is curated by Anne Alvergue and includes work by eight video artists from around the country. It opens July 10 and runs through August 20.

One of my recent pieces, the three-channel Totem (1), is currently installed in the back gallery room of Byron Cohen Gallery in Kansas City where it will most likely be on view for the rest of the year. ANIMALIA at LAC

ANIMALIA, a group exhibition centered around depictions of animals, opened last Friday at the Lawrence Arts Center. The exhibition includes my single-channel video Treebeasties (1) as well as work from friend and fellow Review Studios resident artist Davin Watne and 7 other regional artists. The exhibition runs through July 10.

SpaceRockSpasm closed

SpaceRockSpasm finally came down yesterday at Review Studios. It only took my assistant Adam and I an hour and a half to take down all of the equipment. However, we still have a dozen holes that need to patched before the gallery is repainted.

All in all, it was a very successful show with a great review in the KC Star and a surprising number of sales.

Pigeon in the Everson Museum collection

I got the official announcement yesterday that Pigeon has been accepted into the collection of the Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse, NY. The news came from the museum’s curator Debora Ryan who had organized an exhibition of the piece last year during my Intermissions project in the city.

I found out yesterday that one of my newest pieces, the three-channel Totem (1), will be shown at the Bruno David Gallery in St. Louis in September. It will be shown along with paintings by one of my closest friends, Kelley Johnson.

Cara and Cabezas at NEXT

The NEXT exhibition/art fair closes tomorrow in Chicago. To the left is an image from the Cara and Cabezas Contemporary booth, which includes my video piece Starchild, as well as drawings by Anne Austin Pearce. The news out of Chicago is that the fairs have been well attended but sales are very slow this year, which isn’t too surprising.
