The Protagonist at RAC

A number of my recent video animations are included in the group exhibition The Protagonist: Narrative and Animation, opening this Friday evening at the Rochester Art Center in Rochester, MN. The exhibition, curated by RAC director Shannon Fitzgerald, features work by Tara Najd Ahmadi, Allison Schulnik, Catharina van Eetvelde, Hank Willis Thomas and Marina Zurkow.

Tara and I will be part of a panel discussion Thursday evening at 6:30 PM as well as a curator-led tour of the exhibition at 1:00 PM on Friday.

The Janus Restraint opening in KC

My newest exhibition, The Janus Restraint: The Ascension, opened last Friday at The Studios Inc. Exhibition Space in downtown Kansas City. There was a good crowd and a wonderful reception to the new work. The band Gemini Revolution, who provided soundtracks for a number of the new works, played a live set during the reception. There will be a second reception on June 7 as well as a possible closing party with Gemini Revolution once again playing. The exhibition is on view through June 23.

Sound Screen 3 at Brighton Dome

Sound Screen 3 was a sold-out event at Brighton Dome last Sunday evening in Brighton, England. Above is a shot of one of my videos created for the band Written in Waters. Check back later for video footage from the event.

I have just finished up two new videos for the British band Written in Waters to be shown during Sound Screen 3, a night of music and video performances and collaborations at the Brighton Dome in Brighton, England. The performance, organized by Pop-Up Brighton, takes place this Sunday, April 14.

Promethea performance

I just received this link to a video of the latest performance of Promethea, a collaboration I did back in 2009 with Christopher Biggs. The performance was held at Kent State University last Saturday and Alex Sellers was the performer on saxophone.

Lawn Ornaments As Public Art

My former student Seth Riddle shot some video documentation of Lawn Ornaments at the Indianapolis International Airport while he was passing through the area last week. My video animation will be playing every 8-10 minutes on the jumbo video screen setup in the airport through June 2013.

Composite Structures reviewed in KC Star

The group show Composite Structures received a nice review by Neil Thrun in the Kansas City Star today. The exhibition features three of my newest video animations from the Fragments of Space series. The exhibition is on view at La Esquina through March 2.

The article discusses some of the current exhibitions around KC as well as the two exhibitions that the author, Jamilee Polson Lacy, has been involved with including Composite Structures, which features my video.

Lawn Ornaments at Indy airport

Lawn Ornaments is now showing on the jumbo video screen in the Indianapolis International Airport, where it will be on view until at least June. The Indianapolis Star featured it in an article last month and it is also featured on a travel blog called Stuck at the Airport. Julia Moore, the art consultant who leased the piece from me, sent me some photos but I hope that I can find the time to go and see it for myself.

residency in Iceland

I’m currently preparing for my upcoming stay at NES Artist Residency in Skagaströnd, Iceland. The trip is being supported in part by an ArtsKC Inspiration Grant.
