I've been working on a new series of photographs, the first of which (Suspension 09.1) was just put on display in the back room salon at Byron Cohen Gallery in KC. The print measures 35" wide x 12" high. There are four more in the series which will hopefully be completed in the next month or so.

The Urban Suburban opening reception/auction preview was this afternoon at Epsten Gallery. There was a nice crowd and nice group of artists in the auction exhibition. The catalogs are coming out next week and the auction is going to be held on October 17.
My piece, Always Becoming Something (4.8), is the small black horizontal image on the right side of the photo.

I gave a quick tour of Ectoplasmic Response at Light Work this morning for Prof. Greg Lambert and other administrators from Syracuse Symposium. I'll be giving a lecture at SU in September in conjunction with the Symposium's 2009 theme of Light.

Suspension, my exhibition of photographs, opened at Syracuse University's Menschel Gallery as part of the Intermissions project. The photographs, all 12"x12" pigment prints mounted in 22" round frames, are images of clouds taken between 2000-06 from commercial flights. Although a few have been sold to corporate clients in Kansas City, this is only the second time they have ever been shown as a group.

Three of my older single-channel works, Lovers (2001), Trash Can (2003), and Epic Escapism (2) (2005), as well as a newer one, Pigeons (2009), will be shown in England as part of a group exhibition titled Everyday at the Temporary Art Space in Halifax. The exhibition opens June 5.

I gave a quick gallery talk last night (along with nine other artists) in conjunction with the group show, Happy Tree Friends, at la Esquina in KC. It was very well attended considering that it was a First Friday gallery night and pretty much every gallery and art center in town had openings.
I found out that the exhibit had been reviewed a few weeks ago in The Pitch (KC's weekly alt paper) and I had missed the issue on the stands. The critic, Dana Self, wrote a very intelligent piece and had a couple of nice things to say about my video Epic Escapism (2).

My Dallas gallery rep, Marty Walker, was in KC last weekend to check out the local art scene. We took her to around to see most of the local galleries and museums, including the opening of the new Kemper Crossroads space (pictured here).
She was impressed by the KC scene and will hopefully be back soon. She was also excited about some of my new work and it looks like I might be having a show there again very soon. More later...

One of the self portraits created during a residency at Light Work, untitled (SP2)(second print from the left), is currently on view at Light Work's Menschel Gallery on the campus of Syracuse University. The print is also part of Light Work's permanent collection.

KC in LA, a group exhibition curated by Ashley McLean Emenegger, opened at the Milo Gallery in Los Angeles last weekend. Three of my videos (Treebeasties (1), Vertical Blinds (2), and Soft Velvet Float) were included in the show. The opening was pretty well attended and there's word that we may get some good press from it.
