Beyond Bounds: GLOW, this year's benefit exhibition and auction for the Nerman Museum of Contemporary of Art, was held at the museum last Saturday night. I wasn't able to attend but heard it was a great exhibition and event. I donated a print based on a video still from my recent Ectoplasmic Response video installation. I haven't heard yet whether or not it sold in the auction.

Pigeon, a single-channel video of mine, has been picked by curator Debora Ryan to be shown at the Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse this summer. The solo exhibition, running July 25 to August 30, will be the kick-off to my larger series of exhibitions at Syracuse University and around the city of Syracuse. This project, titled Intermissions, will begin August 14 in the main gallery at Light Work and will continue with other exhibitions and events through October.

Op Eyes was mentioned on Steve Brisendine's new ArtKC365 blog last Thursday. He makes some interesting analogies to ancient Egyptian art.

Finally.

Op Eyes has been placed in the location for which it was created, the projection system on the Regnier Center adjacent to the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art. It was tested last night for the opening reception for the museum's new acquisitions exhibit.

This isn't going to be a permanent public installation, but since the piece is in the museum's permanent collection, hopefully they'll put it up on the screen regularly.

I finally got some installation images for Op Eyes showing in the Oppenheimer New Media Gallery at the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art. The projection is approx. 18 ft. x 10 ft. and is being shown from Blu-ray disc.

opening reception at the Nerman Museum

The opening reception at the Nerman Museum last Friday night was great. Both shows opening that night (mine and the CSF 2008 awards) were very well attended. The reactions to Op Eyes were very enthusiastic. It's a shame that the piece couldn't be shown on the Reigner Center projection system as well as in the Oppenheimer New Media Gallery (where it opened), but hopefully everything will be up and running again soon.

The video was shot by Daniel Smith, one of my motion design students.

We had a great crowd for mine and Anne Austin Pearce's artist talks at the Nerman Museum yesterday afternoon. It was standing room only with over 230 students and guests. We each spoke for 20 minutes (well, I went a bit long...) and had a very robust Q&A afterwards.

Let's hope the opening reception tonight goes as well.

projection test for Nerman Museum commission

nerman_proj_test.jpgI'm working on a commission for the new Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art in Overland Park, KS. I've been asked to create a unique single-channel video animation that will become part of the museum's permanent collection. It will also be featured on the new two-story projection system on the Reigner Center, the building just to the west of the Nerman Museum on the JCCC campus. In preparation for the commission, we did some projection tests using Soft Velvet Float as a test image. The final commission piece should be done sometime in spring 2008.
