lectures in Salina

KWU_lecture.jpgI was in Salina, KS, on Thursday meeting with students at Kansas Wesleyan University, where I gave a lecture on my trajectory from photographer to video artist.

I also gave a lecture on my work and my influences from video and experimental film to patrons of the Salina Art Center. I posted a YouTube playlist with some of the works I discussed.

My new video, Always Becoming Something (3), opened this week at the Salina Art Center. It was commissioned by the SAC and is comprised of video portraits of 27 residents of Salina, KS. The exhibition runs until May 7, 2009.

The video is the third in an on-going series of videos depicting people in various art communities. The first two were created with art students at Syracuse University while I was in residency at Light Work.

Now that the holidays are over and the Dallas show is behind me, I'm going full force on the commission for the Salina Art Center. titled Always Becoming Something (3). I'm almost done keying out all of the footage and am now testing out the overall evinromental look of the piece (like in the test shot here).

I just finished another weekend of videotaping residents of Salina, KS, for my project for the Salina Art Center. I think we've now got enough footage to begin working on the final piece.

The opening has been moved back to mid-March 2009 which is a great relief.

Video shooting began last weekend in Salina, KS, for a new project for the Salina Art Center. The piece will be similar to Always Becoming Something (1) which was created in 2006 during a residency at Light Work.

Last weekend my assistant Cory and I videotaped 15 Salina citizens. I'm returning sometime later in the fall to videotape more volunteers.

The final piece is set to be shown at the Salina Art Center January 15, 2009.
