Suspension, my exhibition of photographs, opened at Syracuse University's Menschel Gallery as part of the Intermissions project. The photographs, all 12"x12" pigment prints mounted in 22" round frames, are images of clouds taken between 2000-06 from commercial flights. Although a few have been sold to corporate clients in Kansas City, this is only the second time they have ever been shown as a group.

blog_schine_mockup.jpg
Syracuse University asked us to project one of my videos onto large windows in their student center. However, after looking at all of the technical possibilities and problems with the space, we decided to propose covering the windows with vinyl photo material instead. Everyone involved loved the mockup so, depending on price, we may cover more than one of the windows.

One of the components of the Syracuse project is to project a number of my recent video animations onto buildings in downtown Syracuse under the Urban Video Project. Last night we tested out some of the projections (Op Eyes is seen here) and took photos for the catalog. Once the videos are ready they will be set to run dusk-to-dawn from mid-August to mid-October.

location scouting in Syracuse

Syracuse_Oct08.jpg
Light Work director Hannah Frieser and I spent about five hours today scouting locations for my exhibition coming up at Light Work in 2009. We visited Syracuse University's Art Galleries, Warehouse Gallery, Point of Contact, Delavan Art Gallery, and Spark, as well as numerous buildings around SU's campus which have public LCD screens. Our thought is to install video "interventions" at various spots around the city and campus. These interventions could take the form of projections on the sides of buildings or small LCD monitors installed in conspicuous places.

BarryA_untitledSP2.jpg I did a few self-portraits in this vein during a residency at Light Work in October 2006. I'm now thinking about revisiting this series for my exhibition at Light Work coming up in August 2009.
